Availability of P2-EJ Mapping Tool and Upcoming Webinars on Pollution Prevention Grants
Pollution Prevention (P2) Grants Program

Last week, EPA announced $23 million in two grant funding opportunities for states and Tribes to develop and provide businesses with information, training and tools to help them adopt pollution prevention (P2) practices. Approximately $14 million in grants with no cost share/match requirement are made possible by the $100 million investment in the P2 program provided by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. This is the first time EPA has offered P2 grants without this match requirement and the first time these grants have emphasized environmental justice (EJ). Proposals are due by April 11.

The P2-EJ Facility Mapping Tool is now available and allows users to identify whether industrial facilities for potential P2 projects are located in or adjacent to underserved communities, including communities with EJ concerns. The new web-based P2-EJ Mapping Tool allows users to identify underserved communities based on a demographic index and to identify nearby facilities included in EPA’s Toxic Release Inventory (TRI), Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) and other data sets. Users can customize the data using a variety of filters including by the five industrial sector-based National Emphasis Areas for P2 grants.

In addition, starting today EPA will begin a series of three webinars to demonstrate the new P2-EJ Facility Mapping Tool and help potential applicants understand how to submit high quality applications. EPA also will provide time for questions and answers.

Additional webinars will be hosted on Feb. 22 and 24 from 1:30 – 3:30 p.m. EST.
