Background Information
Air emissions of EtO from commercial sterilizers can contribute to elevated cancer risk in some communities. EPA’s concern is that a lifetime of exposure to EtO emissions could lead to long-term health impacts if some of the commercial sterilizers continue to emit at the current levels. EPA’s analysis indicates that the air near the facility in Columbus, NE does not exceed short-term health benchmarks.
